The biological treatment of focal articular cartilage lesions in the knee: future trends?

The current interest in biological repair and resurfacing of articular cartilage defects of the knee continues to rapidly expand as more procedures become available and accepted as mainstream techniques. Despite the progress that has been achieved, significant challenges and controversies remain when considering many of the available approaches to treat symptomatic focal lesions. There are numerous factors that contribute to these clinical challenges and controversies.
